The internet has helped up change so many aspects of our lives. We can study and work from home with the help of a computer and high speed internet access. However, there are unfortunately lots of scammers out there ready to take either your money or your work to use for their benefit. Many of these email scam programs and work at home schemes have little hope of amounting to any kind of living.

Unfortunately, these scammers have made their way into the world of affiliate marketing as well. There are some excellent affiliate marketing partner programs to get involved with; the trick is how to spot the scammers.

The face and manner of the internet and home based affiliate marketing business is constantly changing. This makes it very difficult to produce a definitive list of do’s and don’ts. Personally, I believe that a good test is to send the company an email with some basic questions. If it takes them weeks to get back to you then you need to give this venture careful consideration. Again, they may not be out to con you but if they are poor at communication, this could be a sign of other internal problems. My recommendation is to avoid the affiliate marketing partner programs, which have a poor communication. Think about your affiliate commission payment! With the poor communication, I believe that you are not comfortable with the payment as well.

Additionally, another way to determine how well communication of the affiliate marketing partner program is to determine by their affiliate manager. An affiliate manager in the company is the person who takes a responsibility of the affiliate marketing partner program and affiliate marketing entrepreneurs. Without a dedicated and proactive affiliate manager, you should put more consideration on the affiliate marketing partner program. Communicating with the affiliate manager is my favorite approach to determine whether the affiliate marketing partner programs is scam or not.

If the company has no website then you should consider something else. Legitimate affiliate marketing partner programs generally have a detailed website with all the information you need. One should be suspicious of companies that operate only by email. A website is fairly easy to create so why hasn’t this company invested the time to do so? Also, a website leaves a bit more of a trail to a company. If they do end up scamming you, the chances of tracing the people via a website are much better then tracing them through masses of email addresses.

Many of us would love the opportunity to work for ourselves. We would love to chuck in the day job and start our own home based affiliate marketing businesses. However, the costs of starting a business combined with the risk involved stop most of us before we even get started. The home based affiliate marketing business is a great way to make some money by working for you. The costs are none and the risk minimal. One needs to use some caution when signing onto a program. What can Michael Jordan, Ed McMahon and hundreds of other high profile product endorsers teach you about cashing in on Affiliate sales? Tons! In effect, they’re “Super Affiliates”.

After all, what is the role of an Affiliate? It’s to gain sales by endorsing a product.

Would Nike have sold as many sneakers without Mike? Or, would The Publishers Clearing House have sold all those magazines without Ed? Not a chance.

Why are companies willing to pay their endorsers such big bucks? Simple. They know all too well that “trust and credibility” sells like hotcakes.

Let’s put it this way: What if Nike had hired me, Joshua Rose, to endorse their products? Pretty ridiculous, huh? Why in the world would someone buy some Nike’s if I told them to? They wouldn’t.

It’s exactly the same in the online world. Why should someone buy a product you’re endorsing as an Affiliate? Who are you? Why should I listen to you? I don’t know you. Your endorsement is next to meaningless, sorry.

If you want my business, you must first convince me that you’re worth listening to in the first place. But gain my respect and trust, and the opportunities are endless.

The key to Affiliate success is to at first focus your efforts away from your products and towards marketing vehicles that give you the opportunity to win trust. In other words, the first essential step to Affiliate success is TO SELL YOURSELF.

For example:

***** Write a 3-10 part Free Report brimming with insightful and useful information and I’ll start paying attention to you.

***** Publish a newsletter with more of the same. And let me get a sense of who you are as a person. I like what I see. Now I’ll think more seriously about your endorsements.

***** Write a Free E-book that’s going to help me. It can be in your own words or a compilation of the work of others. Help me to learn and you’ll gain my respect … and my ear.

***** Let me see your articles in respected newsletters and references from relevant web sites. The more I see your name, the more credibility I’ll associate with you. I’ll sign-up for your newsletter to learn what else you have to say.

***** Show me that you’ve used the products you’re suggesting. How, exactly did you benefit? What were the results? Is there any downside at all? (You see? Now you’ve got me paying attention and asking for more information).

Get the idea? Affiliate sales are all about building relationships, not promoting products. You can promote until you’re green in the face, but if you haven’t developed a personal relationship with your prospects, and earned their respect and trust, it’s unlikely you’ll ever get more than a handful of sales.

And please remember this, Affiliate success does not come overnight. Like anything worthwhile, it takes effort and commitment.

The good news is that once you establish who you are and win the respect of your leads, it does indeed become easier. After successfully crossing the trust and credibility threshold, it’s much easier to transfer this influence to additional top-notch products and opportunities.

The Master Guide To Resale Rights

I was recently asked to write another Resale Rights Guide for web content on Resell Rights, so here it is:

Would you hire a business coach or mentor who had in-depth knowledge of resale rights?

Absolutely.

A coach who knows the inner sanctum of resale rights and has actually been part of that cult would be manna from heaven. You believe it’s time to get a slice of the action that’s gotten internet marketers into a tizzy, and you’re convinced that resale rights will be the next wave of the future. But let’s face it: how many business coaches really grasp the essentials of resale rights? Not many. It’s relatively new to most mortals, even if it’s been brewing since the early 90s.

So if you can’t hire a coach to preach to you about resale rights, what’s the alternative? You guessed right, you need to do some research, perhaps even purchase an eBook or two.

While I can’t write a book or eBook on the matter of resale rights for this article, I can offer you some advice on the many forms and what to look out for.

Types of Resale Rights

Readers must be warned that while resale rights are the latest craze these days, ill-informed marketers could get into hot water. Our advice: when in doubt, seek legal advice especially if you intend to do a full launch and all-out marketing online blitz for several digital products. Be aware too that there may be e-commerce laws that apply to your products.

Here’s a rundown of the different resale rights:

Basic Resell Rights

You’ve just bought a digital product say an e-book from someone. You have the right to resell the e-book to your customer, but your customer cannot resell it to another. You keep 100% of the profit each time you resell the product.

Resell Rights

Resell rights allow you to resell a product in either its physical or digital form. If it is a digital product, you get to pocket 100% of the profits and still enjoy the product, because digital products can usually be duplicated.

Master Resale Rights (Master Resell Rights)

Master resale rights enable you to resell the product to your customers along with the basic resell rights that come with it. Your customer in turn can also resell the product to their own customers. Master Resale Rights can be sold with the product or sold separately.

Private Label Rights

We like to call these rights the rights of substance. Private label rights (PLR) allow you not only to buy the product but also change the product in any manner you see fit. There’s more: you can change or alter the product even if its just the title or first and second paragraphs of the e-book, and then put your name as the author.

Let’s be careful with PLRs: they do not automatically confer copyright. Copyright is a sticky issue and when you purchase private label rights to a product, be sure you read the fine print and the words in between the lines. Better yet, consult your lawyer. Also, obtaining PLR does not mean you automatically inherit reprinting or re-selling rights.

There’s nothing to fear. PLR can be a lucrative undertaking because of its weight in gold, so proceed enthusiastically, but question anything that is not clear to you. The best thing really is to purchase unrestricted PLR which does not impose any restriction on the product and gives you carte blanche as though you originally owned it.

Give Away Rights

These allow you to give the product away for free but you cannot resell the product or change/edit it. Youre giving it away for free to improve traffic to your site and boost sales.

What To Look Out For Right Now

My main gripe right now is with the steady influx and plethora of resale rights memberships, all claiming and all boasting to have the very latest products that any serious reseller would want to join.

9 times out of 10 the membership offers, you guessed again OLD STUFF! Just recently, and out of curiosity more than anything else we joined a membership, talk about walking in blind, the salespage didn’t even highlight which products were available until payment.

Inside we were greeted with the likes of Google Sitemap Maker and even more old stuff. So we paid $47 for what?

9 times out of 10 we join a membership, and 9 times out of 10 we cancel the subscription, perhaps we already have everything there is?

Another gripe of mine are those multi-level memberships, but that is another story.

Staying Ahead Of The Curve

There is no doubt in my mind that staying ahead of the curve is what will make or break the amount of profits a reseller will make. True, there are resellers out there who still make some nice income from selling the ‘Old Stuff’ there are still those resellers who will make some grand money from selling Google Sitemap Maker (I don’t have a problem with Google Sitemap Maker, it’s just….old).

If you are in the know about resale rights and what the latest products are then you know when to purchase, if you are not in the know then you could be parting with $40 – $50 or more for a product or package that everyone else has! My advice would be to do further research, difficult I know, but if you get a general feel that the product has not been knocking around for years you could be on to a winner.

I feel for the newbies to resale rights, they will soon realize that this could be the ticket to financial freedom, but more often than not they will be faced with a resale package of such size that they MUST have it, unbeknown to them that package has been knocking around since 2005, that cleverly written salespage buttered them up and then toasted them.

In saying all this, the internet is a very big place, and just around the corner could be the latest sale you make, even for the old stuff.

A New Dawn For Resale Rights

Right now at this very moment resale rights are on a high, products with resell rights have evolved so much from the 2004 and 2005 era that I almost feel embarrassed to read an eBook from way back when.

These days it’s all about content and vast amounts of it inside the eBook, graphics have been taken to a level that make them literally jump off the salespage, the software titles are king and wipe the floor with those simple ‘Meta Tag’ creators from the stone age.

Private Label Rights are gigantic also, with more and more marketer’s realizing the true power behind offering a product with PLR, instant fame, fortune and a never ending tide of traffic scrambling to download a product that they can call their own.

Spending Too Much on Advertising

So everyone tells you that the only way to get ahead in business is to advertise. Well, that’s true, but you need to make sure that you stick to inexpensive advertising methods when you’re starting out. Spending hundreds of dollars for an ad in the local newspaper might turn out to get you very few new customers, and you will have spent your entire advertising budget on it.

Make your money go further with leaflets, direct mail or email — these are easily targetable campaign methods with high response rates and low costs. Remember that it is always better to spend money on an offer than on an ad, and always better to spend money on an ad than on a delivery method.

Being Too Nice.

When you’re running your own business, it can be tempting to be everyone’s friend, giving discounts at the drop of a hat and making sure that you don’t hassle or inconvenience anyone. That’s all well and good, until you find that your Good Samaritan act has just halved your profit margin without lowering the cost to the customer by very much at all.

Sometimes, you need to realise that you’ve got to be harsh to make a profit. Give people discounts to encourage them to buy or to come back, not because you like them or feel sorry for them. Don’t be afraid to be ruthless in your pursuit of home business success. Nice guys don’t finish last, but they are running in a different race — one with much less prize money. If that doesn’t bother you, of course, then feel free to go for it.

Not Using the Phone.

You’d be surprised just how common phone fears are — if you’re scared of the phone, you’re not alone by any means. Many people are terrified of making phone calls, and avoid them wherever possible. I have seen more than one home business owner reduced to tears on the phone and trying desperately to hide it from the customer.

You need to try your best to overcome your fears, as talking to customers on the phone is almost as good as meeting them for real. Letters and emails are useless by comparison. The best way to overcome phone fears varies from person to person, but it can often be as simple as making the phone fun, by calling friends and relatives often for a while and getting used to it. Alternatively, try working in telemarketing for a while — if that doesn’t make normal phone use look like a walk in the park by comparison, then nothing will.

Hiring Professionals for Everything.

It can be tempting to think that, since you’re starting out, you should just find a company or person to do every little thing you need. People seem to especially overspend on design services.

You might think it’d be great to have fancy graphics all over your website, but would it really increase sales? If I saw it, it would put me right off. Likewise, a slick brochure often fails to say anything more than ‘I’m going to charge you a premium to pay for my expensive brochures’. Don’t hire someone unless you can demonstrate that the service they’re going to provide will increase your profits by more than the amount you’re spending — if you’re not sure, try it yourself first, and you can always upgrade it later.

Reviewing Your Performance.

So you’ve made it through your first year. When you quit your job, you probably thought you’d escaped performance reviews for good, but I’ve got some bad news for you. It’s actually a really good idea to review your performance at your own company, to take a look back and see what you did wrong and what you did right.

Did You Make a Profit or a Loss?

The first, and most important, question to answer is this: what does your balance sheet look like? You need to honestly add up all the numbers — don’t be tempted to add on money that you think you’re a few days from getting, or take away bad purchases that proved useful in your personal life, for example. Hopefully you kept electronic records, so this shouldn’t be too much trouble.

Once you know how you did, you need to look at how to do better. If you made a loss (as almost everyone does in their first year), what can you do about it? Where did the money go? If you made a profit then, well, congratulations! But you still need to think about how much of your profit to re-invest in the business, and how you can increase your profits next year. Remember that money makes money: once you’re making a profit, wise investment can make it grow exponentially.

How Many Customers Did You Get?

Now, take a look at your customer database. What’s the total number of people who dealt with you this year? How many is that per day, and how much did each one spend? Once you have this information, you can work out how much customers were paying you overall weekly, daily or even hourly. If it seems like a lot more than you saw, you need to ask yourself if you spent too much of their money on expenses. If it seems like hardly anything, then you’re in trouble. Sorry to be blunt, but either you need to consider raising your prices, or you’re just not doing enough marketing or working hard enough.

How Many Came Back?

Of course, a more important metric than the total number of customers you had last year is how many of them came back more than once. Work out what percentage of your business that was repeat business — note that this means you count someone twice if they bought from you three times overall, three times if they bought from you four, and so on.

An easy way to do this is to simply take your number that says how many times a customer has dealt with you, subtract one from all of them, and then add it up. Once you know the raw amount of repeat business, you need to divide it by your total number of customers and then multiply by 100. This gives you a percentage. If your repeat business is lower than 20% or so of your total business, this is cause for concern. Are you doing enough to stay in touch with your existing customers?

What Did Customer Complaints Say?

I hope you kept hold of every customer complaint you got, even if you fixed it at the time. You need to take a good look over what you did right, what you did wrong and what you messed up. I know you dealt with things as they came up, but looking back over everything can help you to see the big picture. It’s all too easy to miss quite simple patterns when you’re in the thick of it day-to-day, and looking at the complaints can reveal a trend that you weren’t expecting.

What Have You Learned?

It can be useful to write yourself out a list of lessons at the end of the year, even if it’s things like ‘quarter-page magazine ads are just as effective as half-page ones’ or ‘make lunch later in the day so you eat it faster’. Your accumulated knowledge is valuable: you’ve paid for it in cash and in sweat, so make sure you don’t forget it. See if you can come up with a list of positive things to do next year to make your business even better!
Once You’re Established: Planning Your Growth.

If you’ve got a profit-making home business on your hands, the next step is growth — expansion into new markets and new products. But how can you grow when the physical space you have is so restricted?

Outsource More.

A typical problem when your business starts to grow is that you find yourself spending a lot of time on all the small administrative tasks your growth creates, leaving you with less time to do all the extra work you’re getting.

The answer is to start outsourcing those small, time-consuming tasks, like bookkeeping, invoicing and the rest. Outsourcing lets you concentrate on what you’re best at while getting the other things done by professionals. They’ll have a system in place that lets them do what you’re taking hours over in a matter of minutes — after all, it’s what they do. Don’t forget, though, that you need to hold outsourced work to the same standard of quality you hold your own to, since your customers won’t be making the distinction.

Create a Growth Plan.

Remember that business plan you made when you started it all? Well, growing your business isn’t that different to starting a new one: you still need to plan ahead, and know what you’re doing. Take out your existing business plan and look at what needs to be brought up to date, what still stands, and what needs to be added.

The most important thing to keep in mind when you turn your business plan into a growth plan is this: don’t forget your core focus. Tempting as it can be to diversify into all sorts of areas as a way to grow, you don’t have experience in these areas — try to do more of what you know, and keep new things to a minimum.

An affiliate business program is simply a program in which you earn commissions by selling someone elses product or service. 3. Build Your Foundation You must have your own domain or domains. You must create your own piece of virtual real estate that you can build and gradually add to as you proceed. Be wary of free sites. When picking a domain name try to get as close as you can to the main keyword or keyword phrase represented by your site’s topic. Use hyphens if you have to but choose a name that is short and can be easily remembered and typed directly into a browser. 4. Know Your Partners & Their Products As an affiliate marketer you will be selling other people’s stuff. You must get to know these future partners and their marketing systems. Pick affiliate products directly related to the topic of your site. Something your visitors are interested in and would likely purchase after you have supplied them with valuable information about those products. A good way to find potential products and partners is to join the well established major affiliate networks on the web. These networks represents most of the Top 500 Companies in the world. Affiliate networks like Commission Junction, LinkShare, Amazon, ClickBank, Shareasale… these networks have been around for years and offer excellent payment structures and commission rates.

5. Long Tail Keyword Marketing Develop content and high rankings for long tail keyword phrases related to your site’s topic. These are some of the least competitive keywords yet they will also prove to be the most lucrative for you. Find the long tail keywords within your niche and exploit them. Using exact brand names of the affiliate products you’re promoting make for effective long tail keywords. Consistently use and develop this long tail keyword strategy and you will succeed at affiliate marketing.

6. Build Your One-Way Links Take a pro-active approach to link building. Don’t sit around waiting for links, instead go out and get them. Use your keyword anchor links in the resource box of your articles. Distribute these articles to all the major article directories… make sure Ezinearticles.com, Goarticles.com, ArticleAlley.com… are on your list. Recommend products that you use, make forum posts, create viral videos, join social media sites, offer a free newsletter and build your own subscriber base, create follow-up autoresponder series on the major products you promote… these are all ways of creating traffic and customers.

7. Embrace Google But Don’t Ignore the Others Embrace Google as if your affiliate marketing life depended on it – chances are it will be! Google is the search engine that you must optimize for if you want your site to really succeed online. Don’t ignore the others, but Google has become the most popular search engine in the world and even accounts for 50% of all the searches made in the USA. Whether you’re a Google fan or not, Google has gained the trust and respect of the majority of Internet users. Getting a top 10 placement for your targeted keywords will often mean money in the bank.

8. Be Aware Of The Social Media Revolution Be aware the Internet is constantly changing and in the next few years everything will be turned topsy-turvy. We are talking about the growing popularity of user-generated content sites such as MySpace, FaceBook, YouTube, Digg, Technorati… Stay within the flow by making sure any site you create has a blog and RSS feed attached to it. It is the same case when you dream to become a Super Affiliate. To be a Super Affiliate, we have to have a mindset of a Super Affiliate. If you are not yet a Super Affiliate, change your mindset now. Here are some of the Super Affiliate Mindset that we have to set in our mind so that one day you also will become a Super Affiliate:

1)Treat affiliate marketing as a real business.
- In fact, you have to treat everything that can put money in your pocket as a real business. If you treat everything that you do as as a real business, the rewards will be worth it. Take time to build your assets, focusing and organizing your business to become a fully functional and profitable business. Find a way to reduce your overheads and costs without affecting your profit. Treat your affiliate marketing as a real business and you will find it worth your time your money and your effort, be it a short-term or long term.

2)View the product as your own.

When starting of with affiliate marketing you may not know the different types of affiliate programs available for you to start your online business, and which affiliate marketing opportunities will be of interest to you. Its very important to understand the basics of affiliate marketing, so you dont waste your precious time with marketing campaigns that are not suitable for the type of affiliate program.

If you need the basics of affiliate programs, then read on, because Im going to discuss the different type of affiliate programs and affiliate marketing opportunities available for affiliates today.

Affiliate programs can be categorized into two types, which are pay per click (PPC) and pay performance (PPP). Basically they both bring satisfactory results, depending on how you evaluate them.

Pay per click (PPC)

Pay per click affiliate programs have gained popularity amongst affiliate marketers. It maybe because its quite easy to make money with pay per click. Pay per click affiliate programs pay affiliates every time they refer a visitor to their website, regardless if the visitor buys or not. The merchants can either offer text or banner ads for the affiliate to choose and paste on his website. So when a visitor clicks on the text or banner ads, the affiliate gets paid a certain amount or percentage agreed with the merchant. You would not expect to get big bucks from a single click because most single clicks can be as low as $0.05. But if you can drive lots of traffic and generate lots of clicks, then you can make quite a lot.

Pay per performance (PPP)

Pay per performance is the most lucrative type of affiliate program for affiliates, because with pay per performance the merchant pays the affiliate when the visitor buys the product (Pay per sale) or signs up for anything the merchant is offering (Pay per Lead).

This type of affiliate programs are popular amongst merchants and are often used by finance and insurance companies who need sign-ups for their business to grow. And most of, if not all info products also fall in this category. The commission pay out is quite considerate ranging around 15% to 50%. So if the product is selling for $150 and you get 50% a sell, your commissions will be $75.

Tier affiliate marketing

Tier affiliate marketing or different level affiliate marketing are affiliate programs that can benefit affiliates from referring others to the affiliate program.

Tier affiliate marketing can be categorized into different groups named single-tier, two-tier, and multi tier. And are all based on the different levels in the affiliate network by which payments are made.

In single-tier affiliate marketing, affiliate commissions are only paid on traffic or direct sales he/she refers to the merchant. Then in two-tier affiliate marketing, the affiliate is not only paid for direct sales that he refers to the merchant, but you are given the opportunity of referring other people to the affiliate program and once they sign up and become affiliates, you get a certain percentage of all sells they make. Multi-tier affiliate marketing is similar to two-tier affiliate marketing, but you the affiliate get additional commissions for a wider number of affiliates in different tiers. You get a percentage of your referrals referrals.

Residual income affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing and working with niche markets is the way to go today if you are young and eager to make a lot of money. Im not saying that affiliate marketers never have to work a single day in their lives and just rake in the cash while sitting out by the pool, but there are tremendous perks to this job. When i first started with affiliate marketing i had been frightened by all these internet languages used to describe certain marketing tactics, which put me off and just discouraged me. I’m going to share some effective affiliate marketing techniques that can work wonders for your affiliate marketing campaigns, but only if you apply them.

Believe in the affiliate product you are promoting

Believing in the product you want to promote is the first step. You will not be able to promote a product and expect your visitor to buy it if you don’t even believe in it your self. I mean, you won’t even be able to present the product if you have not seen positive results your self. Your enthusiasm will be loudly reflected by your words. Most people make a purchase from a given testimonial or personal recommendations. And in order to communicate directly with your heart, you need confidence in the affiliate product you are marketing.

Personal Endorsement

You should get many legitimate words of praise for the program you are marketing. Your personal endorsement and testimonials will provide your visitor better credibility then any other advertising material you may supply. Ask your previous customers or upline for feedbacks, so they bring credibility to the product as living testimonies. So if you are depending on supplying nice banners and pictures, you wont get that much response.

Don’t you want to laugh at some of the ads you see. “Make easy money as a Clickbank affiliate”. Let me tell you, if it was that easy, 95% of all Internet marketers wouldn’t be failing at this business. So it’s time that somebody printed a Clickbank affiliate survival guide. While this article won’t be possibly replace an entire guide, it is the hopes of this author that it will be at least alert you to some of the things that as an affiliate you should be on the lookout for. Otherwise, life as a Clickbank affiliate can be a real nightmare.

Probably your biggest pitfall of being a Clickbank affiliate is your competition. What most people don’t realize is that they are not alone in this business. Clickbank probably has the largest affiliate base of any affiliate network on the internet. So if you are going to have a chance of succeeding, the first thing you want to do is not try to compete with others promoting the same product.

This is probably the easiest thing to avoid because of the tools that Clickbank gives you. The Clickbank marketplace may very well be the greatest thing to come to Internet marketing since the introduction of the autoresponder. At the Clickbank marketplace, you can see every product that is being sold and make an informed decision as to what products you want to sell. How do you do this? You do this by examining the stats.

The stats that Clickbank tracks are dollars per sale, percent per sale, percent referred and gravity. Let’s take them one at a time and point out what you’d like to see in each.

1. Dollars per sale is how much you will make on each sale. Ideally, you want to look for products that pay the most, especially if you are going to use Google Adwords to promote the products, which can really eat up profits quickly. But this is not the only thing you want to look for.

2. Percent per sale is the percent of each sale that the affiliate gets. Ideally, you want at least 50% on each sale. Some products pay as much as 75% or more. Of course, these products are more popular and harder to sell because of the competition.

3. Percent referred is the percentage of all sales that come from affiliates. This is a very important figure and usually coincides with the next stat. Ideally, you don’t want to compete with the products where 85 to 90% of the sales are coming from affiliates.

4. Gravity may be the most important stat to gauge the competition. This figure tells you roughly how many affiliates are promoting this product. You want to sell product with little competition, you want to look for gravity numbers under 20.

Ok, putting this all together, ideally, these are the numbers you want to look for:

Dollars per sale – $25 or more
Percent per sale – 50% or more
Percent referred – Less than 70%
Gravity – Under 20

Believe it or not, these products exist. You just have to find them. When you do, you have found products that you will have a decent chance of selling, especially if you use Google Adwords and mine long tail keywords.

These are just some basics on how to survive as a Clickbank affiliate.

Even if you choose a good home based affiliate business but you have no idea how to manage your business financially, you will most likely end up losing a lot of money. Since you cannot afford to waste your money, you must take care of your finances early on. It will not really do you any good if you just keep working on your business, not really knowing if you are making enough money to compensate for your efforts.

If you are running an affiliate business website from home, you are going to have to have an advertising budget. Making a budget can be easy if you understand the basic steps it takes to drive traffic to your affiliate business website. You will then be able to determine how much money you can afford to advertise accordingly. As your affiliate website becomes more popular through your advertising efforts over time, you will be bringing in more income and can set aside more money for your budget. At first you might only be able to budget for a limited amount of advertising methods. That’s a good thing though, because it forces you to rely on that technique until you can afford other methods and the repetition of that advertising method will lead you to mastering it, or at least getting alot more proficient at it than when you first started.

Getting started

The first thing that you need to do to get your financial systems in place is to open a separate bank account for your business. A lot of home based affiliate business owners keep their personal funds together with their personal accounts that they end up drawing money which should have been for the business and vice versa. The practice of mixing up your personal funds and the funds for your business is very dangerous because you will not have much control over you business and personal finances. By opening separate bank accounts for your business and for personal use, you will be able to manage your money better.

Since you are working form home, try to separate all the expenses that are related to your business from your home expenses. For instance, your business phone should be paid by money coming from your business account. You might also want to “bill” you business for utilities and rent. You can do this by setting a certain amount every month for utilities and rent then take this amount from the business account.

Out of your affiliate business earning, you might also want to set up a certain amount which you can draw out as your salary. The good thing about setting a certain amount of money every month as your salary is that you will be able to determine if you are indeed making enough money to pay for all your business expenses and at the same time pay yourself for your efforts. Make sure that you only draw-out the extract amount of money from the business for your salary. Even if your business is doing well and you have plenty of money in the business account, do not be tempted to draw more than you should. Keep the money in the business account for future use. You might want to expand your home business later on.

At the end of the year, you might want to give yourself a bonus. If you have been religiously following your own rules regarding your finances, you will be surprised at how much money you will have left in your business account at the end of the year.

Tax considerations

To start you know that all affiliate commissions earned from your website are going to be taxed. How much money is taxed on affiliate business commissions? Since you will be operating a home based business, what type of deductions will you be able to make? To answer these questions the first things you should do is go and talk to an accountant. Remember that when you are employed by someone, your taxes are taken out of your pay, and all you have to do is to file them at the end of the year. However, with a home based affiliate business you are the one who has to be in charge of doing taxes, your life will be alot easier if you take some time to find out the truth about the taxes paid by home based affiliate business owners.

So, the best thing that you can do is to visit someone who does this for a living. But make sure that it is someone who deals with home business owners on a regular basis, so that you can be sure you know what is going on and they do too. Another good option would be to find an accountant that comes well recommended.
